SPECIAL EVENTS

ART RECEPTION

Thursday, February 18, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM (rescheduled from 2/16)

Community Meeting Room

Frannie Loren Schwab and Students: Past Present and Future. The public is cordially invited to the reception and celebrartion for the artists on Thursday, February 18th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Refreshments will be served.

This unique show features the work -- in various states of completion -- of Frannie's students. There are paintings by students of all ages from children to adults. Some are reproductions of works that have been sold or given away, most are finished and framed, and a few are unfinished. In this way, the viewer gets to experience the creative process in progress -- something that is not always possible when seeing only finished works.

Frannie's studio is located in Freenland and overlooks Great Bay. To see more of Frannie's work, and to find out about new classes, visit her website at www.FrannieLoren.com.

MILITARY BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:30pm.

The Military Book Discussion Group meets monthly in the New Hampshire Room to discuss books about any and all subjects of military interest. Led by Rye resident Ray Jarvis, the group has recently discussed Adrian Goldsworthy's How Rome Fell; and LeMay: the Life and Wars of General Curtis LeMay, by Warren Kozak. Newcomers are always welcome. The selections for the coming months are:

April 1 God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570 to 1215, by David Levering Lewis
In chronicling the four-hundred-year period of Muslim rule in Europe, an era that began with the surprise assault on Gibraltar by Berber forces in 711 and concluded with the rout of Muslim forces after the fall of Toledo in 1085, Lewis challenges many of the preconceptions that have dominated traditional history. In doing so, he presents a compelling narrative that puts Muslim Spain - and its rich, vibrant heritage - back into the very heart of European politics and culture.

MONTHLY BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
