Adult Programs

Storyteller, Rebecca Rule, entertained an audience of 40 at her April 24th program, Better Than a Poke in the Eye.  Your friends and neighbors described the performance as, "I loved the program. I have not laughed this much in ages. It is the best medicine in the world." "Excellent presentation." "Rebecca is a N.H. gem!"

“TRESURES IN YOUR ATTIC: OLD AND RARE BOOKS

With Ken Gloss, Owner of the Brattle Book Shop in Boston, Mass.

 Thursday evening – May 22nd at 6:30 P.M.

Owner of one of America’s oldest and best known antiquarian book shops in America, Ken Gloss will lecture and answer questions about old and rare books. He will then appraise books from members of the audience.  Mr. Gloss has appeared as an appraiser on PBS’Antique Roadshow, so this opportunity to have your books evaluated by an expert is not to be missed!

ART DISPLAYS

Now on display through June 2008 in the Community Meeting Room, are "Seascapes" by local artists.

Artist and teacher, Sally Michel, is exhibiting her paintings and those of her students on the Library's upper level through May. 

The Rye Public Library is also participating in "Faces of Caring,"sponsored by Compass Care.  This photographic exhibit spotlights the amazing seniors in our Seacoast communities and their dedicated family caregivers.  Located on the Library's upper level meeting room windows.

From turning your computer on, to opening, creating, and saving your very own document - to more advanced tricks of getting things done quickly. Get comfortable and ask questions while you find out what your computer can do for you. Do you feel like your computer only does a small fraction of what it is capable of doing? Get practice with Windows, options, and file maintenance.  Organize, Create files and store your documents exactly where you intend to find them.

A sample of MS Office -- including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other office related skills will be addressed in this class. Learn how to incorporate information from one program into another, and about different file types, finding lost information and other office related skills. Find out what helpful software can be "downloaded" from the Internet, and how to do it. How to navigate the menus to get the software to do some of the work for you by employing macros. Sponsored by the Friends of the Rye Public Library. Note: Pre-Registration is Required.

MILITARY BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

The military book discussion group meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:30pm.

June 5th - Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of World War II by Robert Kurson

Recounts the discovery of a sunken German U-boat by two scuba divers, tracing how they devoted the following years to researching the identities of the submarine and its crew, correcting historical texts and breaking new ground in the world of diving.
